A play about precarity and touristification
«La noche que confundí a un turista con una pelota de fútbol» is an autofictional piece written by Valencian playwright Arantxa Cortés, winner of the 9th International Invasive Dramaturgy Prize ‘Lauro Olmo’ 2025. The play explores themes such as housing, labour and emotional precarity, and life in a city shaped by touristification. Through a contemporary narrative, it portrays a generation juggling short-term contracts—both in work and housing—and searching, without a clear direction, for the possibility of finding a home.
The dramatised reading is performed by the author herself and actress Arianne Algarra, and is part of the 16th edition of Russafa Escènica – Festival de Tardor, which in 2026 runs under the theme Sagrada y profana. The event is organised in collaboration with the Fundación SGAE and the Associació Valenciana d’Escriptores i Escriptors Teatrals (AVEET).
Festival context
Russafa Escènica is a benchmark festival in Valencia’s performing arts scene. This edition combines theatre, dance, and performances with a critical and social focus. Alongside the dramatised reading, the festival includes a playwriting workshop led by Sergio Serrano on 21 and 22 September, and the presentation of the 10th Dramaturgy Prize on 27 September at the Centre del Carme.
