A book to reclaim historical memory
On 11 September 2026, the cultural centre La Repartidora presents «Granddaughters Against Oblivion: Experiences of Francoist Repression», a collective work coordinated by Carmen Morente Muñoz, bringing together 56 accounts written by granddaughters, great-granddaughters, and grandnieces of those repressed during the Francoist dictatorship. These texts, rich in memory and a gender perspective, explore the impact of repression on families across three generations, blending historical data with personal experiences.
Who is taking part
The event will feature three of the book’s authors: Elena Solanas (also known as @elena_guerrillera), Mariaje Pérez (@pmariaje), and Dani Fepera (@danifepera). Additionally, the folk trio Buenaventura—named in honour of Buenaventura Durruti—will perform during the presentation. Their repertoire, rooted in protest song and folk traditions, reinforces the event’s activist spirit.
A project with a female voice
«Granddaughters Against Oblivion» not only sheds light on the stories of Francoism’s victims but does so through a female and intergenerational lens. The first-person accounts reflect how silence and fear were passed down through families, while also showing how the fight for memory remains alive in new generations. Published by Editorial Universidad de Granada, the book is available in bookshops and on the publisher’s website.
