Dialogue on Human Action in the Age of Protocols
On Wednesday 16 September 2026, CaixaForum Valencia will host the conversation "Situation and Constellation: How Protocols Are Conquering Our Lives", where German sociologist Hartmut Rosa and researcher and curator Alexandra Laudo will explore how social acceleration and technification are transforming our way of acting in the world. The event, part of the cycle "On Pause: Dialogues to Reflect on the Present", will begin at 18:30 and last 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Rosa, known for his theory of social acceleration and his critical analysis of the relationship between time and modernity, will open the session with an intervention based on his latest book, "Situation and Constellation" (Ned Ediciones). In it, he argues that everyday activities—from cooking to making political decisions—no longer require human judgment but have become processes guided by bureaucratic or technological protocols. This transformation, according to the author, weakens the link between action and emotion, contributing to phenomena such as burnout, loneliness, or political polarisation.
Laudo, whose research focuses on the social construction of time and experience, will engage in dialogue with Rosa to explore possible alternatives to this model. The conversation will address key questions: How can we reclaim human agency in a world dominated by algorithms and regulations? What role does sensitivity play in the age of automation?
Admission to the event requires a ticket, priced at a flat rate of €6. There is no information on capacity limits or specific attendance requirements.
