A Collective Analysis on Food Sovereignty and Feminist Economics
On 17 September 2026, the cultural space La Repartidora (C/ Reverend Rafael Tramoyeres, 8, Valencia) will host the presentation of the book «Soberanía alimentaria y economía feminista. Miradas y prácticas desde el País Valencià y otras latitudes», published by Los Libros de la Catarata. The work, coordinated by Alicia Rius Buitrago and Marta Maicas Pérez, brings together contributions from researchers and activists exploring alternatives to the patriarchal capitalist model from the perspective of life sustainability.
Participants and Event Structure
The event will feature four of the book’s authors:
- Marta Maicas Pérez (coordinator and member of the Xarxa per la Sobirania Alimentària del País Valencià).
- Mónica Gil Junquero (researcher in feminist economics and agroecology).
- Cristina Galiana Carballo (specialist in food policies and gender).
- Laia Baró Gómez (activist and technician in food sovereignty projects).
The day will be divided into two sessions: a morning session (11:00-14:00) and an evening session (17:30-20:30), addressing both the book’s theoretical foundations and practical experiences from local and international collectives. The approach combines academic analysis with real-project testimonies, such as community gardens, consumer cooperatives, and care networks.
Book Content
Published in April 2026, the book challenges the extractive and predatory logics of capitalism, proposing food sovereignty and feminist economics as tools to rethink our relationship with land, labour, and care. Key topics include:
- The climate crisis and its impact on food systems.
- The role of women in food production and distribution.
- Economic alternatives based on reciprocity and mutual support.
- Case studies from the País Valencià, Latin America, and other regions.
The 272-page book is available in physical format (€21) and digital (€10.99) on the Los Libros de la Catarata website.
