Conference: 40 Years of Spain in the European Union
The La Nau Cultural Centre at the University of Valencia commemorates the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the European Union with a conference analysing its impact on human rights, democracy, and foreign policy. The event, scheduled for 16 September 2026, is part of a series of activities organised by the university to reflect on this historic milestone.
Participants and Themes
The session will feature Alfons Díez Torres, Spain’s Ambassador, who will open the debate with an institutional perspective. He will be followed by Ruth Merino, Regional Secretary for EU Representation at the Valencian Government, who will discuss the role of autonomous communities in European integration. Rafael Ripoll Navarro, PhD in EU Law and Director of the Institute of European Studies at the Catholic University of Valencia, will moderate the discussion.
The event will focus on three key areas:
- The evolution of human rights within the European framework.
- The consolidation of democracy in Spain following its integration.
