Antonina Canyelles’ Poetry Takes the Stage
The Mallorcan company Estudi Zero brings The Great Asylum to life, a theatrical production based on the poetry of Antonina Canyelles, one of the freest and most transgressive voices from the Balearic Islands. Far from a conventional recital, the show transforms Canyelles’ verses into a living spectacle, where words—sometimes tender, sometimes biting—merge with scenic elements that play with temperature, sensuality, and the joy of literature.
A Poetry Collection Full of Rebellion
The Great Asylum explores the themes that define Canyelles’ work: antifascism, anticlericalism, bold feminism, and a deep republican spirit. The texts, performed by the company, delve into life, death, anguish, and celebration, always from a critical and liberated perspective. The production not only honours the poet’s spirit but amplifies it with a staging designed to connect with the audience through playfulness and sensory experiences.
Dates, Times, and Tickets
The show will be performed at La Máquina (Pare Jofré, 7, Valencia) on 12 and 13 September at 20:00. Tickets are priced at a flat rate of €12 and can be purchased via La Máquina’s website or platforms like Servientradas.
If you love poetry with a capital ‘P’ or theatre that challenges conventions, this is your chance to discover—or rediscover—one of the most essential voices in contemporary Catalan literature.
